This one sounds interesting. An urban hafla event at a Russian cultural centre. Cross-cultural or what? It’s not really a normal party, but more of an event celebrating the roots of the popular “mizrahit” (literally “eastern”) music genre that’s so popular in Israel. If you’re curious about it at all, then you may well find this interesting. The event will start at 19:30 with an hour of music accompanied by visuals taken from Middle Eastern movies. Then there’ll be an hour long lecture about the roots of the genre and the secret of its charm (which will be very fascinating, but also in Hebrew, so may be a bit lost on you unless you bring a friend who can write you notes or quietly translate for you or something 🙂 ). Then at 21:30 there’ll be a Middle Eastern hafla with a belly dancer and plenty of music to shake your ass to. This will go on till 23:30.
All this will take place at Fishka House, Eilat 7, Tel Aviv.
Entry is only 20NIS, so you can always just come for the party at the end or chill out at the cafeteria for an hour without feeling too bad.
Oh and in case you’re wondering what the mizrahit genre is about (as opposed to plain old Middle Eastern ethnic music, for example), then here’s a random song from Israel’s platinum album king, Eyal Golan .
