The biggest party weekend of the year is here as well as my favourite Jewish holiday. There are so many parties happening that I don’t even know where to start. So I’ll start with Thursday. I hope I’ve given you time to sort out your costume and get your energy drinks (and more) in before the weekend, because you’re going to need all the help you can get to live through this.
Thursday
Reality Rehab Space Ground (Levanda 2) has two days of live alternative indie rock shows starting at 20:00 on Thursday. The night will carry on till morning with a party and the whole thing will actually start again at 12:00 noon on Friday with DJs and then live bands till late. On Thursday you can see:

Wanna see Mark Ronson play in Tel Aviv? Well, the good news is that he’s playing for a DJ Set and he’s bringing YOYO club residents Seb & Leo with him. The bad news is that he’s playing at Haoman 17 which as an overpriced and supercramped club with potentially dubious sound (I’ve not been back there for years). Starts at 22:00 and tickets cost a whopping 200NIS if you pay by Paypal here. 50NIS more if you buy your ticket from either the Deli or the Michatronix bar.

4th Grade party lookalike party Purim special – Multisexual madness: happy 80s music, drag shows plus a room dedicated to music from the 60s and 70s. Dress as your favourite 80s character (anything) for a chance to get in for free. It’s all happening at the Bootleg Club on King George from 23:00. Get there before 00:30 for entry at around 50NIS. 70NIS after. Oh, and you need to be 25 and over to get in.

Samiyam (Brainfeeder) LIVE at a secret loft in south Tel Aviv. Loads of local support. Come dressed up to get in for 50NIS or, if you’re a sad loser who can’t even put on a silly hat (yes, that’s enough, apparently) then you get to pay 100NIS. Friday
OK, as usual, this is hardly what I’d call an “alternative” event, but the official Tel Aviv municipality Purim party‘s happening outside the Tel Aviv museum of art from 12:00 till…Quite a few hours later. Loads of good local DJs, some sort of headphone party with a different vibe, a market, lots of sponsorship posters and commercial stuff and….For better or worse, a world record attempt at having the biggest Harlem Shake video. Should be fun and it’s obviously 100% free. If you’re going to bring your own booze, put it in a plastic bottle as no pets, glass bottles or bicycles will be allowed in the fenced off party area.
Oh, and this being Israel, the event will be postponed if it rains.

Midburn, Israel’s very active Burning Man community spirit, is back with another party HaEzor Club. The Theme is outer space, so come dressed as something related to that. These are very fun parties with some of the best party people in the country and they are very true to the Burning Man spirit, so if you’re at all interested in BM, this is where you’ll want to be. Also, if you just want to enjoy a wild party with nice people. The music is going to be electronic, from glitch, electro & dubstep to bass and, I guess, trance & techno.

I have no idea what the 8bit Purim Party at Zevulun 48 is all about, but I’m guessing some sort of cool, hipster / retro thing. It starts at 21:00, is free and there will be cheap booze. Here’s their website.

If you’re gay and you know it, you may want to check out the massive superhero party by Pag & Forever & Beef at The Block. They’ll be hosting Horsemeat Disco. Some areas of the club will be open to women too, but from what I gather, these are not the most fag hag / fruit fly / women who want to dance with gay men so they don’t get hassled – friendly parties. Doors open at 23:30. Tickets 80NIS+.

If you’re 27 or older, into dark 80s and 90s music (goth, alternative, industrual, EBM, etc.) and want to meet similar locals in a massive costume party, then you could do worse than head down to Haoman 17 where club goers of Tel Aviv’s famous alternative clubs of the 80s and 90s will be coming together to celebrate. The crowd will be all its cut out to be, just remember that what I said before about Haoman 17 applies: they cram you in and alcohol prices are insane.

Roof animals are having a….space themed roof party. Yes, space is a popular theme this year, so if you’re going to the Burning Man party on Friday, you can rock up in your costume from 16:30 – 23:00 and fit right in. Remember the practically men only club at the Block on Friday? Well, Saturday is when the women get a go. The main women party event in Tel Aviv and no, you don’t have to be gay to enjoy it.
