This Thursday (30/6/11) is the Tel Aviv White Night. Lots of cool things will be happening at night all over town, so get ready for a very busy night of culture, music, art, and parties. The streets will be rammed full of people, so get ready for some serious crowd action. Here’s the officially unofficial DIY Tel Aviv guide to the things I think are worth checking out this White Night. I’m sure there are plenty more worthwhile events, so feel free to comment, email or message me with more, if I’ve missed something you think is really cool.
Minshar White Night
Just down the road from the Fanzine festival, Minshar are holding their own little White Night thing, that will finish quite early. Starts at 20:00 and goes on till 23:00. Minshar is an art school, so there’ll be several shows opening (photography, visual arts and visual communications departments, plus another big thing in the gallery), as well as performance art by the Theatre students, poetry and even a DJ playing funky swing tunes which are all the rage in Tel Aviv right now.
Parties
Free street party around Noga (Tirza street and around)
DJs, food, stalls, music and all the local bars and cafes will be open late and offering cheap deals on booze and things. Might be a little bit more sophisticated than your average white night party, appealing to a slightly older crowd.
Free street party at Beit Haamudim (Nahalat Binyamin)
From 21:00 till morning. Cheap white spirits chasers and a bunch of DJs including Soulico and Sabbo. I guess some sort of funky hip hop and related genres but don’t hold me to it. There’s bound to me more stuff played so you never know.
Dizengoff Center White Night
As much as I actually quite like Dizengoff Center, it wouldn’t normally be my idea of hip fun. This White Night, though, there’s a big party at the “Electric Cave” (the underground car park) that has the very brilliant Balkan Beat Box playing live! Balkan Beat Box are one of Israel’s finest musical import. I was introduced to them by a friend in the UK who didn’t even know they were from Israel. Boom Pam, the support act, are very well known and play all over town all the time. They play Middle Eastern surf rock and are cool. There’ll also be a load of good DJs, including Yarin Lidor, Doni Kisluk, Afficoman and Prince of Persia. Awesome line up. Bad news is that it’s not free. Tickets are 150NIS in advance or a scary 180NIS on the door. Worth it, if you can afford it. You can buy your advance tickets from Abu Dubby Hummus or by calling 0526941488 if you’re in Tel Aviv (a person, not a ticket agency). If you have a Hebrew speaker handy, you can also get them online at Mister Ticket
Doors at at 23:00, main show at 1:00. So technically you could do other White Night stuff before.
Donna Martin White Trash 90s party
Tel Aviv’s favourite 90s trash party goes all white trash for the white night. It’s at the Comfort 13 and invite you to go all white trash and redneck, dress up accordingly and dance about to trashy pop, sleazy rock and even country. All-American, all white, all trash. Tickets 50-70, starts at midnight.
Banana Beach party – Matbooja Project and Knesiyat Hasechel
This beach party seems slightly less yuck than the main one further down on the BluBird beach. Matbooja Project have a very 90s festival world music fusion band sound, which is really rather nice. Starts at 22:00
Electro Hookers in White
A free party at Helen’s Keller (Hashmonaim 113) with all kinds of electro, African, Balkan and bass. Should be small, alternative and fun.
Free techno night at the Chapeau
The little bar will be kicking it with resident Alon Gorsky and Rona Geffen who is not really a techno artist but has a really great voice and makes kicking high-energy electro (and beyond) tracks.

whats up with the trance? Where will the ravy trancy progressively possibly psychedelic parties be???? : )
I’ll see if I can find any more, but try the Banana Beach one. Matbooja Project are fun to dance to and quite trance-like.
