Tomorrow night is the eve of the Israeli Memorial day. You’ll hear a siren go off in the evening, signalling a moment of silence for the fallen. Most Israelis will stop and stand at attention for the duration and will get angry at you if you’re in a public place and don’t.
If you’re in Israel tomorrow night, you may as well stay in with a good book as there’ll be nothing to do. Nothing, that is, unless you want to join in on this very special event.
Tomorrow from 21:00 at Reading 3 in the Tel Aviv port, there is a special Israeli-Palestinian event to mark Memorial Day and remember the victims of violence on both sides. Now in its 6th year, this event is organised by Combatants for Peace and will be attended by bereaved Israeli and Palestinian families and artists Yoni Rechter, System Ali, Ruth Dolores Weiss, George Samaan, Noam Rotem, Noran Mas’ud, Yair Dalal with the Voices of Peace Choir and the director Ram Loewy.
I expect there to be various speeches, but also music and it beats the hell out of your other options for the night. More info on the Combatants for peace site and don’t forget there’s going to be another siren on Monday morning.
