The main point of this article:
If you’re moving to Israel or even just visiting, you might want to pick up some words or phrases to use. To be honest – most people in Israel speak good English. Definitely good enough to serve you or give you directions. But if you’re a language buff like me, you might want to impress the locals with some Hebrew, or just learn a language that’s probably radically different than your own (unless you speak Arabic, in which case, not so different). A while back, I teamed up with a company called Innovative Language, after having done their Japanese course before visiting Japan. I studied for two weeks before my visit and was able to get by even with people who didn’t speak English at all. I ordered vegetarian food, asked for directions, even understood most of the answers! So as much as I am not fond of advertising, I thought, “hey, this is actually quite a useful thing that people might actually be able to use.”
So they have a website called Hebrewpod101 where you can sign up for free and learn a bunch of basic stuff that’s enough to get by in Israel. They also have various paid subscriptions where you can learn more. The good news is that because I’ve teamed up with them. DIY Tel Aviv readers get to pay less for these. This month it’s 25% off all subscriptions. So check out the link below and use the code provided (DIYTELAVIV) to get yours.
