I know a lot of you want to learn Hebrew but think it’s super difficult, so here’s some good news. DIY Tel Aviv has teamed up with hebrewpod101.com, which is this brilliant online language course from Innovative Language. I recently used the Innovative Language website and app to learn some Japanese before going there on holiday and in around three weeks I picked up enough to be able to get by in a country where a lot of people hardly speak any English. So if I can learn Japanese with this thing, you guys sure as hell can learn Hebrew. It’s online so you can do it anywhere, any time, it’s fun, the lessons are short so you can do a little bit every day and there’s a free trial that’s going to teach you a whole load already.
And because DIY Tel Aviv’s now a hebrewpod101 partner, if you sign up to the paid membership through this link, you’ll also get 20 bonus videos so you can learn even more stuff.
So here’s how I did it when I was learning:
I did around half an hour every day. I started with 2-3 lessons on the first day, had a listen through, repeated the vocabulary for practice, then came back the next day, repeated the lessons I thought I didn’t know very well, added another lesson. Then each day I repeated the last couple and did another lesson. That way things actually stuck.
Another thing to do is to watch a lot of TV shows or Youtube videos in Hebrew while you’re learning. Just one thing every day, even subtitled (so that you can enjoy the show). This helps you get used to the sound of the language, different accents, etc.
Then get out and use it. As soon as you start talking to people, you’ll want to learn more. Otherwise, it’s just like being at school. And nobody likes being at school, even if the lessons are fun.
Give it a go and leave a comment letting me know how it worked out for you. I’m totally going to use this thing to pick up a few more languages!
