If you want to join peace organisation Shovrim Shtika and see with your own eyes what’s going on in the occupied territories, then you can join one of the upcoming study tours.
Here’s the catch, though (apart from heading into the settlement heartland where you will undoubtedly not be welcomed by the psychos who live there) – only the Hebrew tours leave from Tel Aviv. The English speaking tours leave from Jerusalem. Early in the morning.
You’ll need to either get yourself to Jerusalem very early or join a Hebrew tour and ask for someone to translate for you along the way. You can also try to get a tour organised for you and a small group or see if anyone is going to the English tours from Tel Aviv and can give you a ride.
Tours cost 50NIS to cover expenses. You usually meet at about 8:00 or 8:30AM and return at about 2:30 or 3:00PM. You are responsible for your own water, snacks, and hot weather gear (a hat!).
The dates are:
English tours (leaving from Jerusalem) – October 28th 2010 and on November 25th 2010.
Hebrew tours (leaving from Tel Aviv) – October 29th and November 26th 2010.
There are also some Hebrew speaking tours leaving from Beer Sheva in November. Not very useful, unless you’re living in Beer Sheva.
For more details to sign up or to see if you can organise a tour for a small group, email: tours2hebron@gmail.com
If you are emailing to RSVP to a particular tour, You’ll need to tell them which tour you’re interested in and provide a name and contact details (preferably a phone number) in case of last minute changes. The dates seem to occasionally change last minute.
