The Tel Aviv White Night event is upon us and is coming this Thursday. Brace yourselves for a night of absolute craziness where the whole city will be jam packed with even more people than usual. It’s going to be insane. There are so many great events happening all over town. I’ve listed more alternative White Night events I find interesting below. Some of them are official, some not so official. For the full list of official events, you can check out the Tel Aviv municipality website (yes, there’s information in English).
Here we go:
From 18:00-00:00, a free night of live music (A-WA, Groove Ambassadors and more), DJs (Amir Egozy, Turtle, Schoolmaster) and fun at Bialik Square.
***
The last ever 15 minute short party! From midnight at Hayarkon 19. Just like a normal party, but only 15 minutes long. Apparently pretty mad, considering.
***
Also at Hayarkon 19, from 21:00 all night long: Single Copy. Musicians Noam Rotem & Daniel Meir will create, record and burn a single copy of a 25 minute long musical piece, then hand out the CD to one member of the audience, randomly. The lucky audience member becomes the owner of the piece and can do whatever he or she wants with it. This process will repeat throughout the night. Free.
***
Black night – South Tel Aviv’s unaffiliated protest event at Matalon 70. Poetry readings, fun music from Ophir Toubul (Mizrahi and beyond) and a general “screw you, municipality, we’re doing our own thing for South Tel Aviv” vibe, though one of the speeches at the beginning of the event this year is said to be from the city council, so who knows? From 20:00.
***
Anti Mehikon group’s art show, The Art Law, opening at the old Bezeq House on Ibm Gabirol 108 from 20:00. The show deals with the challenges and moral dilemmas faced by artists creating in a capitalist world, which is ironic as it’s shown in a condemned building which houses a temporary art space before being demolished to make way for a posh apartment complex. Hear an interview with one of the curators here.
***
From 22:00 at the same spot, Evil Gvirol is a proper underground techno rave in the basement of the building. Free. Worth beating the crowds to sneak into this.
***
Mystorin Theatre doing another one of their site specific shows at the central station. It’s a weird walk around the space, watching physical theatre, puppets and general oddness. Tickets are 70NIS and need to be booked in advance. Do it by calling 0544601551.
***
Free outdoor house / techno party at Rothschild 12 from 22:00. Full details here.
***
Juju & Jordash headlining the Breakfast Club’s White Night party that’s starting at 23:30. Also on the decks: Deep’a & Biri. 40-50NIS to get in.
***
Lots of local indie bands covering a whole bunch of other local indie bands at Levontin 7 from 23:30 in this tribute night to the Israeli underground music scene. Pay as much as you can, all proceeds go to the performers at the end of the night. See event page for list of bands.
***
Huge night at the Block as expected. Roman Flugel, Robag Wruhme and Derrick Carter, among others. Doors at 21:30. Get there by 23:30 for 40NIS tickets. After that it’s 70+.
***
Big street party on Zevulun St. (number 11) with Kol Hacampus radio station, lots of live acts and a semi-secret techno party inside. From 19:00-2:00. Free. Some more details and names here.
***
The Tel Aviv Cinemateque will be showing Monty Python films to celebrate the upcoming reunion. Holy Grail at 21:00 and Hollywood Bowl at 23:00.
***
Anna Loulou bar has a “just another night” party. Escape there if Tel Aviv scares you. DeXon Faya, Amir Egozy, Spark O. Great electronic, eclectic music, no assholes.
