Well, as you might know, the Jewish New Year is starting on Monday, so this party weekend is going to be the mother of all party weekends for a while. With this in mind, here’s the mother of all party listings posts. Keep your eyes peeled further down for the holiday listings, as there are some really great things happening in the realm of live music. OK, let’s take a deep breath and dive in.
Tonight (Thurs)
The big one: Ian Pooley at The Block from 23:30 till morning. Tickets 50-70NIS. You can get advance ones here.

A mini festival/showcase of local indie music from 14:00 till…I dunno. Sometime in the evening. It’s kinda hush hush. 10NIS will get you in to see these bands / artists (Hebrew names, but you can click the Soundcloud links to hear the sounds). It’s happening at this recording studio in the south of town.

Or… You could go to another indie music festival organised by the guys of Reality Rehab Center at their base on Ben Yosef St (no. 23). It’s from 16:00 – 23:00 and costs a mere 20NIS. Bands:

Into world music? Great. So are the guys at Lassez-Passer who are launching their latest locally inspired (and beyond) ethnic music mixtapes in Jaffa’s Ajami neighbourhood, just in time for sunset. Head down to Ibn Sina 27 in Ajami (Jaffa) for 18:00 to catch the sunset and hear some awesome world beats. It costs 25NIS and if you’re one of the first 50 people to get there, you’ll get a free CD with both mixes. Here’s the first one. Let’s face it, if you plan ahead, you can certainly be one of the first 50 people there, because Israelis don’t turn up to any party on time.

Queer here at the Anna Loulou. weird and inexplicable post drag performance, mad music to dance to, lots of hot people from all across the gender and sexual preference rainbow. Yes, that includes you. Starts at 21:00 goes on till most late and is free of charge.
***
Roof animals at Checka (Rothschild 28A) from 23:00 till late. Deep and tech house to shake your ass to. 20NIS on the door with a free chaser, 50NIS on the door with a free drink. You can supposedly PM them in advance on Facebook to get in for free. Try them here.

Dita Von Teese & Monarchy at PAG. PAG is a dedicated gay night and I have heard stories before about the crowd not being particularly female friendly, so take that into account. On the other hand, Ms Von Teese will be not only playing a DJ set but also performing every once in a while when the mood takes her, which is worth the risk of annoying a few bitter queens, I reckon. 23:30 till morning. Tickets 60-80NIS. You can get them in advance here and cut the queue or you can also grab them at the Shpagat bar.

Reggae is hardly underground in Israel, but if you like reggae, hip hop, dancehall, raggatone, roots and related stuff then you’ll want to be at the Sublime club in Florentin from 23:30 for a huge night with live music, loads of local DJs and even some free booze. Bring ID as this is an 18+ only event and they supposedly check. Only 50NIS on the door. Line up (ripped from their event page): LUKACH | NECHI NECH|PELED -LIVE | SOULICO CREW – SABBO| WEDDO |SHIMI SONIC |ROB | RUDEBOY SOUND- RAMI GRAMI & DJ MARK |DONI KISLUK | MYSTICAL YOUTH SOUND | LAROZ | DJ MESH

Something huge is happening at the Block – The Central Station Festival, an indie music bonanza was meant to happen on top of the central bus station building, but for some reason it’s been moved to The Block. Fear not. It’s full of the best of the best of local indie music from post-folk to pop to alternative rock and even electronica. It’s going to be awesoe and huge and it’s starting at 10:00 and going on till 23:00. You totally want to go to this if you like indie / alternative music. It’s a chance to see practically everything in one spot. Tickets 90NIS in advance or 110NIS on the door. You can buy them in advance at: Haozen Hashlishit (the Third ear) music shop, Teder bar, Deli Bar, Michatronix, The Casbah Cafe, Abu Dubby Hummus and the Bar Kayma. See here for bands and times. Too many for me to list so I’m going to leave you to take some chances with some Hebrew.

If you’re looking to work off your holiday meal pounds or are lucky enough to not have to deal with a holiday meal and want to party then you can return to The Block for a special 1984 party. Yup, 80s nostalgia, Michael Jackson special. 80s and some 70s disco all night long with several different spaces. Starts at midnight. Tickets 50-70NIS on the door.
