This Thursday is the Tel Aviv White Night event. Get ready for loads of good stuff happening all over town all night long and all free or very cheap. Here are a few good things to check out on the night. Keep watching this space as I’ll undoubtedly find out about more things and add them here. As most things are free, you can aim to go to more than one.
Outdoor / Street parties
The big mainstream party are in Rabin Square (headphone / silent disco party) from 20:00 – 2:00. You can rent headphones, or download an iPhone or Android app that will allow you to hear the music through your smartphone via Radio Tel Aviv (102FM). The music will be sort of mainstreamish, one would guess. There will also be huge video projection screens and lots of commercial sponsorship signs. The only guy on the line up I recognised is Erez Netz, who’s the guitarist for Infected Mushroom. Go if you like being surrounded by thousands of people and enjoy mainstream music. It’s meant to be the biggest silent disco in the world.

A much cooler outdoors party will be happening at the scenic Bialik Square from 20:00 – 23:00 with live music and some very cool DJs. The line up is: Dj Cheeba (Ninja Tune, UK) // Buttering Trio Feat. Ravid Kahalani // Bela Tar // Amir Egozy // VJ Ram Matza. It finishes early so you can start there and then go somewhere else.

Rothschild 12 is having an outdoors Pacotek event in their back garden. Full details at the Facebook event page.
***
Free indie bands at Gan Hapisga in Yafo from 21:00 including the very popular local bands Reines Girls and Electra and Brigitte from France. Go if you like good indie music in scenic settings.
***
Achoti House is having another one of the traditional Black Night parties, an evening of protesting and partying. I’m not sure if it will be a street party like before or indoors, but expect some sort of art show, Yehuda Keisar and his band playing live Mizrahi music and Ophir Toubul playing his usual blend of upbeat world music. Corner of Matalon And Chlenov. Go if you like Mizrahi music and want to party without being seen to support Tel Aviv’s mayor in any way.
***
The 17 lounge on the corner of Montefiore and Nahalat Binyamin is also having a street party. DJ Shaked Duvdovich will play outside, while Ofra Baram will play in the bar. This one might be a bit low key, but worth a look if you’re passing through the area.

The Hoodna Bar will be a good place to escape to if the rest of the city gets too much. There’ll be DJs from 23:00 and possibly live music. Also, Florentin’s disgruntled locals attempting to avoid the officially sanctioned festivities. Free.
Indoor parties & live music
Levontin 7 is having a free evening celebrating local underground bands. There will be not one, not two but actually 10 different bands to hear, all doing one original song and one cover. The night will end with one full length show. Starts at 23:00.
***
Barby Club has Trifonas, Boom Pam and Cosmo from 21:30. A rare and free opportunity to catch these guys on the same stage. There’s going to be a very happy vibe.
***
Massive local DJs night at the Block with 3 different rooms. Expect loads of house, bass and techno. 30NIS till midnight, 50NIS after. More details here. Go if you want to party in a club and hear what local DJs have to offer.

Anna Loulou has Digital Me and Dexon Faya playing great live digital music. From 23:00. Free. Recommended for lovers of electronica.
