Help make the new Zik show happen at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art

artZik Group (Zik means “spark” in Hebrew) is one of the most interesting art / performance art groups to come out of Israel. They’ve been around since 1985 and have taken their unique shows – often huge spectacles involving live large-scale construction, fire and all kinds of strange tricks, fireworks, etc. – all over the world.

They have an ambitious new show,Mysterium Cosmographicum, that they want to perform at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in November 21/22. It involves (among other things) original, disturbing music performed on two grand pianos and huge sculptural objects that require the entire hall to be redesigned so that they can be moved around for the performance.

Sounds amazing, right? But the show needs a bunch more money before it can happen, which is why the group’s currently raising money using an Israeli Kickstarter clone called Headstart. Tickets for the show cost 100NIS. You can help guarantee the show actually happens by pledging to buy a ticket in advance. Your card won’t actually get charged unless the campaign succeeds and the shows go ahead. The group is entirely non-profit and the budgets they get don’t even begin to cover what they want to do.

In the spirit of full disclosure I’ll point out here that one of the founding members of the group is none other than my uncle, so apart from letting you know about this whole thing, I’m also helping out family 🙂

So in case you think I’m biased, here’s a video showing some of the stuff they’ve done through the years:

Zik in short from Zik Group on Vimeo.

There’s only a little bit of English on the Zik Headstart page so I’m just going to tell you here what you can get with each tier:

  • 50NIS or more gets you a T shirt
  • 100NIS or more gets you a ticket to the show
  • 150NIS or more gets you a ticket and a T shirt
  • 350NIS or more gets you 2 tickets, 2 T shirts and one CD/DVD of the group’s past works
  • 500NIS or more gets you 2 tickets, 2 T shirts, a CD/DVD of the group’s past works and Zik book (345 pages long)
  • 1000NIS gets you the same as the 500NIS tier and an evening at the group’s studio with the Zik group members. There will be wine, pizza and some very happy people.
  • 5000NIS will get you the same as the above tier, plus you get to own an original work of art by Zik. Great if you have the place to put it. Their works are generally pretty big.
