Ariel Sharon in a coma – controversial art show opening this week

Noam Braslavsky’s new show at the Kishon gallery is an interactive installation inviting the viewers to experience his vision of Ariel Sharon’s hospital room with a life sized replica of the former Israeli PM lying in a hospital bed. An usher leads the viewer through the installation in a manner suited to a real hospital visit.

Obviously, this is a rather controversial piece that has aroused quite a bit of press in Israel. It opens on the 21st of October (this Thursday) and will run till November 19th.

The artist worked with some members of Sharon’s family while constructing the former PM’s replica and while he did not quite get their blessing, they also did not put forward any objections. In a recent interview, he claimed the idea for installation is to show Sharon’s state as an allegory to the current state of Israel – in limbo.

Noam Braslavsky is an Israeli born artist who has been living and working in Berlin for the past 20 years.
