Today

Spoon Carving workshop at Hastudia from 19:00. Full details (in English) on the event page.

House of 1000 Corpses showing @ Koro Bar. Doors at 20:00, screening at 21:00. Free.

Harel Shachal & the Ottomans playing at Shafa Bar (open fronted bar in Jaffa, so like a street party) from 20:00. Happy Turkish music. Really good fun. Free.

Tuesday

Two Poets Under One Roof Poetry book launch – the book is in English, the readings will be in both English and Hebrew. At The Prince on King George from 19:30. Free. Full details and blurb here.

Cinema Garage, Florentin’s open air cinema is showing a space animation by Rene Laloux (not sure which one, but it’s based on a short story by Asimov) and there will also be strawberries. From 21:30 at Zevulun 11. Free. Cheap booze on site.

Wednesday

Big Fat Whale performing live at Cafe Dalia (Nahalat Binyamin) from 21:00. Groovy Latin Jazz. Free.

Creative event at the Ficus communal workspace at Lincoln 19. You pay 5NIS, they provide papers, you turn up with pencils, pens, crayons, whatever (as long as it’s not messy paints) and after an initial group talk about the event, go off to your own little corner to create, write , draw, paint, whatever. They plan on doing this regularly and showing works from previous events at the opening of each one.

Thursday

Trenda, Ruach Nashit’s fashion fair in aid of this super important organisation helping get abused women out of the circle of violence and support them on their way to financial independence. Grab amazing local designer fashion at prices up to 150NIS and there’s even a special wedding dress area with dresses up to 1000NIS. It’s at Hatachana shopping area from 17:00, then all day Friday and Saturday. Free. They’re still looking for volunteers to help run the fair. Contact them through their page. Also, you can listen to an interview I did with one of the organisers on yesterday’s radio show.

The Infiltrators exhibition opening. Really cool social and conceptual art show dealing with global and local refugee issues, which includes the results of a groundbreaking think tank. Read the full info on the event page, listen to the interview I did with some of the people involved and whatever you do, don’t miss the gallery talk on Friday at 12:00.

Mystorin Theatre staging the site-specific physical theatre show, Sails inside the central bus station. I saw one of their other shows there and it was insanely surreal. Worth checking out if you’re up for an hour of the strangest bus station tour you’ve ever been on. From 20:30. Tickets 70NIS. Must book in advance. Call 0544601551 to book.

Sonic Avenues (Canada) and Sweatshop Boys (Haifa), Mad Choice and Not on tour play a kicking punk multi-band gig at the intimate Koro Bar. Tickets 50NIS on the door or 40NIS in advance.

Bint el Funk playing live at the Hoodna Bar from 22:00. This is what they sound like.
