Levinsky Jam is a fun event that’s been happening at Levinsky Garden (opposite the new central bus station) for a while now. Refugees and locals get together for a drumming circle and people who play other instruments are also invited to join. Last week the police came and stopped the event with the curious excuse that the “neighbours” complained about noise between 2-4PM (there aren’t really any neighbours). This time, the event will start at 10:00 in the morning and will be joined by the 106FM broadcast unit. The theme of the shows will be refugees and African culture, so there’ll be all kinds of good African music, as well as some talk radio about issues faced by refugees and migrant workers. The jam itself will start from 13:00 as usual. Time will tell if they have to stop between 2-4 again.
