\"fashion\" Like everything else in Israel, the thing Tel Aviv fashion is best at is the art of fusion. You know how they say there’s no such thing as “effortlessly cool”? Well, you’ll reconsider that statement when you visit Tel Aviv. While there are plenty of hipsters and yuppies and designer clothes around, the real “Tel Aviv look” , if you can call it that, is casual, often colourful and heavily influenced by global trends, especially cities like Berlin and New York and, to a lesser extent, London and Paris.
\nBrazilian fashion is also quite popular here, maybe because the climates are somewhat similar. Brazilian footwear is particularly popular, more so than the tiny bikinis and speedos.<\/p>\n

Heavy make up is not that popular in Tel Aviv, maybe because of the hot weather. In general, women don’t seem to spend as much time getting ready as they do in places like the UK, for example, and you generally won’t see women putting on makeup just to go to the shops. People really do just throw something on here and go out and sometimes it actually works out pretty well.<\/p>\n

Original Israeli fashion is often heavily influenced by international trends too. You’ll find a lot of very nice stuff and some quite original jewellery, though there isn’t really a typically Israeli style in the same way that there is a Japanese Style or a Brazilian style.<\/p>\n

Although there are some very innovative local designers, Israeli street fashion is actually rather subdued compared to the big cultural centres it’s inspired by.
\nIsrael is not a place where people would quietly judge you as they would in Europe. If you wear something outrageous, every person you meet on the street will share their opinion about it with you. I remember coming to Tel Aviv from London with a nose piercing (which no one had ever commented on in London) and being greeted with stupid questions, criticism and comments everywhere I went – shops, taxis, the street, everywhere! <\/p>\n

Vintage and retro are very big in Tel Aviv. There are plenty of vintage and second hand stores and many private vintage sales in homes and gardens, something I believe may be quite unique to Tel Aviv. On the whole, though, Tel Aviv ladies tend to incorporate retro items into their overall look, rather than go all out and make a perfect vintage outfit. Much of the Tel Aviv underground fashion style is about being eclectic.<\/p>\n
