\"\" Tonight Passover will finally finish, which means you can start eating decent food again all over town (and not just in selected places). Of course, this also means that tonight is the eve of the Mimouna, a curious and rather brilliant holiday celebrated by Moroccan Jews in Israel. Now, I’m not exactly an expert, but I do know a few things. First of all, the food is awesome. There are amazing amazing sweets to be had, including the flagship of the Moroccan sweet dishes – the mufleta<\/a>. It’s sort of like a pancake, sort of like a crepe, sort of like pita bread and none of the above. In Morocco, it’s actually quite a common dish, eaten for breakfast with butter and honey alongside mint tea. In Israel, for some reason it’s a special dish served on this particular holiday.<\/p>\n

The other thing I know is that unless you know a real Moroccan who can invite you to a real Mimouna party, you’re never going to experience the real deal. There have been years in the past where I actually considered following people who were going to one and crashing the party. Tel Aviv isn’t actually the best place for Mimouna parties, but there are still quite a few around.<\/p>\n

But you can still enjoy a good party and some mufletas in town anyway, which for an addict like me, is the important thing.<\/p>\n

This year has been quiet on the Mimouna party front as far as advertising goes. I noticed that the Perla Bar on the corner of Florentin and Vital St. is having a Mimouna party with beer and mufletas from 20:00 till 4:30 (ish). It’s not a place I usually go to, so I don’t know much more about it.<\/p>\n

Last year the Cordovero bar on the corner of Cordovero and Stern (also in Florentin) also served mufletas, as did the Jaffa bar.<\/a> Might be worth checking in to see if they intend on doing something this year as well.<\/p>\n

The Maxim club has a free Israeli music night to celebrate the holiday, but I saw no mention of foods.
