If you’re on holiday, this probably means very little to you, but I’m sure lots of people are enjoying the shorter week (not me, though, bloggers never rest). To make things even more enjoyable, here are a few very cool things happening in town this week. More are already in the app or will be appearing there in the next few days. Enjoy!

 

Monday (today)

Maria Kong – Stand up for your rights @ Suzanne Dellal from 21:00. A dance / theatre fusion performance inspired by film noir and 30s cinema. The Maria Kong troupe includes members from all over the world and their shows are funny, psychedelic, strange and crazy. Tickets are 110NIS. Call 03-5105656 for tickets or buy online.

Tuesday

Catvidfest @ Bar Kayma from 20:15 – a must for cat lovers, this is a screening of all 79 cat videos originally shown in the world’s first cat video festival in Minneapolis in 2012. Categories include drama, music, humour, artistic and more. Free.

POMO (CA) @ Alphabet from 19:30 – Quality Canadian bass house. Support from Galo, Egozy and Yogo. Free.

Wednesday

Actually in Holon, but close enough to Tel Aviv and interesting enough to mention. Printscreen festival of digital culture starts and will go on till the end of the week. More details on the website.

Amit Erez & The Secret Sea are saying farewell with one final gig, as Amit Erez leaves for the US. Come hear their lovely indie-folk-rock sounds at Tmuna before they go. From 21:30. Call 03-5611211 for tickets.

Thursday

Hamekarer (Hashmonaim 88) – a new exciting art space in what used to be the refrigeration vaults of the wholesale market – is having its launch event. This will go on for 3 days with all kinds of stuff going on. Tonight the Slow Food Movement will be holding a disco of some sort and serving meals made out of salvaged food products that would have otherwise gone to waste. Free, from 19:00.

Igor Krutogolov’s Karate Band @ Levontin 7 from 22:30. Avant Garde klezmer bands using only toy instruments. Strange, surreal stuff.

A night of philosophy and art organised by the French Institute. Rothschild Blvd. will have some sort of art and performance walk, while the institute itself at Rothschild 7 will host a night of philosophical debates in Hebrew, French and English with 15 prominent French philosophers and something like 70 local ones. Huge art event all over town – Loving art, making art. Loads of open studios, performances, exhibitions and more. Full info here.

Clothes swap market @ Bar Kayma 12:00 – 17:00. Bring stuff you don’t want and / or pick up stuff you do want. No money changes hand. Please bring stuff that’s wearable.

Lindy Hop flash mob @ Dizengoff Centre, Building A. From 13:30. Come join in or watch. There will then be a 2 hour lindy party in Dizengoff Square. All free.
