If you’re at all interested in the Zeitgeist movement, then you might want to hurry up and get a ticket for tomorrow night’s Z-fest. Peter Joseph, the creator of the Zeitgeist series of films is going to be in Israel and will give a talk, also answering questions at the end. His talk will be in English, though there will be some other stuff happening before in Hebrew (I assume). The event will talk place at the ZOA house from 17:30 – 21:45, tomorrow. Tickets cost 40NIS and are very very limited, so hurry. If you want to get in the mood, head down to Lima Lima tonight from 21:00 till midnight for an “activist mingling session” – i.e. music, booze, visuals from the Zeitgeist movies and some cool activist people.

I’ve just updated the site with the shiny new update of the guide. This one has updates all across the board because I didn’t update last month. Some places that no longer exist have been removed from the Shopping and Politics sections, some new places have been added to the Eat Out. Drink Out section and some minor updates appeared everywhere else. Enjoy

Do you feel like dancing? Of course you do! Saturday night may not mean the same thing in Tel Aviv as it does in countries where Sunday is God’s day, but in Tel Aviv you can still party (almost) all night long if that’s what you’re after.

So, first up, there’s a free techno / tech house party at the Breakfast Club from 22:00 – 3:00. The DJs are:

and even though it’s Saturday, I don’t expect that many people to turn up early. Yes, you read that right, free entry all night long.

If you like Dubstep, then the Lima Lima is having its usual Masss Dubstep night from 22:00 – 4:00 and while it’s not free, it’s certainly cheap – 10NIS before 23:00 and 20NIS after. On the decks will be DJ Ivy, the Masss DJs and Camel Drop Crew, hailing from Israel’s deep south. The Masss crew are about to leave the country and head over to LA, so this is your last chance to see them play in Israel for a while.

After Tel Aviv’s summer of social protest (before the Occupy movement was the Occupy movement) took Rothschild Blvd. by storm, people sort of got used to spending time there and partying all day and all night for free (in between protesting and learning about / discussing issues, of course). The Tel Aviv mayor got a lot of flack for shutting down the tent camps, so now the city’s trying to regain its funky image by bringing the street parties back to Rothschild (after moving them away somewhere else last year). So come by today from 12:00-16:00 for two stages of DJs playing various electronic music as well as local favourites such as reggae, dancehall and some indie. There’ll also be some sort of urban fashion market and stuff like that. The city-funded parties are usually very very commercial with adverts everywhere for all kinds of sponsors, but the DJ list this time is actually pretty promising and it’s all free, so should be a fun afternoon. The party will take place on Rothschild Blvd. between Allenby and Herzl.

You may have heard about those cool little private sales that happen in Tel Aviv on a regular basis. Well, tomorrow and Sat you can go to one of them and feast your eyes (and hands) on second hand clothes, shoes, accessories and even furniture. This little yard sale will be happening in the cool Kerem Hateimanim area at 16 Kehilat Eden St. from 10:00-17:00 tomorrow and from 10:00-18:00 on Sat. You never know what you might find…

This Thursday (26/1/12) at the G Spot club in Florentin (Salame/Shalma 40) there’s yet another awesome Cafe Gibraltar related nights of amazing world music. In this case, African, celebrating Tel Aviv’s old and new African influences.
DJs playing music from Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, North Africa and loads more, plus live drumming from Ghana, real Ethiopian coffee and all kinds of surprises. starts at 22:00, goes on till 1:00, supposedly, though that sounds a bit early to me. Either way, come early as you won’t want to miss anything plus you’ll be able to get in for 30NIS before midnight if you hit attending on their Facebook event page. Otherwise it’s 40NIS.

On the 31st of January, the Rogatka Bar’s Queer Cinema night will be showing the film “The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye”, which is a portrait of the life and work of the amazing Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV) and his other half / collaborator Lady Jaye. The film’s main focus is the surgical / sexual transformations the two underwent for their Pandrogyne project. The film is in English and 65 mins long.
There will also be a regular bar night before and after so you can just come and drink and chill out. Doors at 18:00, film at 21:00 and entry is free. There will be cheap vegan soup on offer too, which if the weather stays like it is, will be a fine choice for sure.

Two of my favourite Israeli DJs, Poingi and Urun are playing the Jewish2 tonight from 23:00. If you like funky and futuristic electronic sounds then go go go. It’ll be fab. The party will go on till after 3:00. Not sure whether it costs anything, but if it does, it won’t be very much.

Tel Aviv’s most intimate underground bar, the Michatronix, is hosting a night with Perfect Stranger and Cruz Kontrol. The tiny space will be going off in pumping, electronic sounds, so if you like parties that feel like a private party and don’t mind smoke and small, tight spaces, then you’re gonna love this. Starts at 22:00, finishes at 7:00. Cruz Kontrol on first, so come earlyish if you want to catch them. Free entry all night long, baby!

Tomorrow (Monday) there’s a free audio-visual electronica gig at the Saloona Bar by Business Class Refugees. If you like groovy, world music infused electronica, then it’s just the thing for you.

Starts at 21:00, event goes on till 00:00, free entry. Saloona bar is at Tirza 17 in that area that is technically Jaffa, but feels like it’s on the borderline between Jaffa and Tel Aviv. It’s a beautiful space, so a good place to catch a gig.
